¡Buenas!

We finished our first week of ministry! 🙌🏼 Last week we moved in with our ministry host family in the town of San Antonio Aguas Buenas. Eddy and Erica opened their house to us with such warm hospitality and love. Erica cooked every meal for us, so we got to experience authentic Guatemalan cuisine, and it’s been truly delicious. Also, their coffee is the best, they grow and process their own! One of the perks of living with our host in San Antonio is that we were in the middle of the town, so we got to walk to ministry and to my favorite place to grab a snack- “Bayit”. Tomorrow (Monday) we’ll be heading back to the Adventures in Missions base in Parramos, and we’ll be taking a bus to ministry every day. So it will look a lot different from now on.

Ok, let me tell you about Hope! The organization’s goal is to teach kids about God, disciple them, and teach them English; in the hope that they will grow up to be missionaries to the nations, get better jobs but most importantly that they will grow a deeper relationship with God! All the volunteers are so sweet and passionate about the mission of Hope! This week we joined “worship room” as well. This is a co-ministry of Hope, where we gathered a few times a week for prayer and on Thursday nights for worship. The goal – to seek God’s face!

One of my favorite moments this week was on Tuesday! We got to go on house visits. Before heading out we had a time of prayer and a small bible study. When it was time to go, our group had a family in mind, but when we got to the house no one answered. So we walked a lil bit farther and visited the family of two boys  that come to Hope. Mom (Sandra) was home with the new baby and one of the boys. We got to talk to her about adjusting to the new baby and her husband (Victor) came in. Immediately he was engaged in the conversation. Alida (one of Hope’s volunteers) was sharing about how important it is to be in relationship with God in order to do better as parents. He shared that he was struggling to believe that God had his best interest in mind, and that he felt like God had forgotten about him. He had given his life to the Lord before but he didn’t have a relationship with him. So, he understood that it was time to rededicate his life to the Lord 🥹😭. He asked Jesus to come back into his life and asked if he could join a bible study! PTL!

I’m so excited to see how the Lord moves in this family 🤍

Ok, so we’ll be heading back to base tomorrow and reunite with the whole Squad and we’ll be kicking in another week of ministry at Hope!

Gracias por leer 🥹 here are some prayer requests:

  1. The teams stomachs as they get used to the food here.
  2. Hope, and their volunteers.
  3. The community of San Antonio.
  4. Sandra + Victor’s family

Much love, Alisha.

Oh here’s an artistic picture of Bayit,
